Three standout candidates remain for the 2017-2018 season MVP in the NFL. All three have led their team to the playoffs and compete for the Lombardi Trophy. My top three candidates are Tom Brady, Carson Wentz, and Todd Gurley (in that order), which I think is an opinion shared by many.

1: Tom Brady (QB), New England Patriots

2: Carson Wentz (QB), Philadelphia Eagles

3: Todd Gurley (RB), Los Angeles Rams

Todd Gurley is a powerhouse running back who has brought the LA Rams from a 4-12 record to an 11-5 record. The Rams were thought to be one the of the top teams in the league, however they lost to the Falcons. Gurley really proved his case towards the beginning and end of the season, not the middle. He ranked number two in rushing yards and number one in rushing touchdowns with 13. He is the best running back this year and he did help bring his team from a losing season to a winning season. He did with the help of Jared Goff and Sean McVay though. This team needed him, but he had a lot of good help on his team and he wasn’t all too consistent. He wasn’t the most VALUABLE player.
It really comes down to comparing Brady with Wentz at this point. From a stats point of view, Brady is better. Brady had 32 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. Wentz had 33 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. So far, Wentz is better. But, Brady has 1,281 more yards (Wentz missed three games). Wentz was not getting there. Brady has a better completion percentage and passer rating as well. So, I think Brady is better, but just barely.
Stats does not justify who is more valuable. The voters will take into consideration how much the team needs him, and if they just need Belichick. Hopefully any hatred for Brady will not bias them, but who knows. Wentz has been the most valuable to the team out of these three players, but the injury hurts him. If he wasn’t injured, Wentz would win. He’s kind of like the Matt Ryan of last year. For me, it’s between Wentz and Brady, and it’s honestly a toss up. I could see either of them winning, but I can’t see Gurley winning.

MY PICK: Tom Brady (QB), New England Patriots
